Charlie RUSSELL A Citizen Senator for Vermont |
"No thanks, Jim"

| This year many thousands of conservative and moderate Vermonters are wondering who to vote for to be their U.S. Senator. The major parties offer them James Jeffords (R) and Edward Flanagan (D). They are, alas, well to the left on the political spectrum. Just look at the Jeffords record: To any one who has paid any attention, Jeffords has never shown the slightest support for traditional Republican principles. Instead, after 32 years in public office he is asking Vermonters to reelect him because of whatever government benefits he has been able to squeeze out of Washington and bring back to Vermont. We're supposed to say "Thanks, Jim", while the federal government takes away more and more of our earnings and more and more of our rights. Well, Jim, I say, "No thanks." "No, thanks" for your votes against our property rights and against our gun owners rights. "No, thanks" for your votes against the right of even third trimester babies to be born, a position even Democrat Sen. Patrick Leahy couldn't find the stomach to cast a vote against. "No, thanks" for your vote against school choice for poor black kids who deserve a better chance. "No, thanks" for your vote against protecting the American flag that we proudly flew from our river patrol boat on the Vam Co Dong. "No thanks" for your early support of Hillary Clinton's plan to socialize health care in America. "No, thanks" for your disgraceful opposition to the confirmation of an outstanding jurist, Justice Clarence Thomas. "No, thanks" for your even more disgraceful vote to leave in office a President obviously guilty of committing perjury under oath and obstructing justice, offenses that many less powerful Americans are right now doing time for in prison. "No, thanks" for your championing of a Federal Gay Rights Act and support for civil unions. And Edward Flanagan? He's even further to the left, if that's possible, than Jeffords. Flanagan wants socialized medicine right now, "No thanks, Ed." The relentless efforts of Jeffords and Flanagan to get as far to the left as possible leaves a great empty space in the middle and the right. There are many thousands of independents, constitutionalists, conservatives and just plain middle of the road Vermonters who reject Jeffords-Flanagan big government excesses. I am running for the United States Senate as a candidate of the newly-founded Vermont Constitution Party. I'm running because those Vermonters want a candidate to vote for who stands for our Constitution and for what they believe in. Unlike Jeffords and Flanagan, I will faithfully support the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, including our First Amendment right to free speech, our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, and our Fifth and 14th Amendment right to own and make peaceable use of our private property. I am the only candidate for this office who will work to limit government, lower taxes, advance small business, defend traditional marriage, protect the rights of unborn children, and restore morality and common sense to public life. I'm the only candidate for this office who has promised to vote against, not support, a Federal gay rights or civil union act. I am asking all Vermonters who share these views NOT to vote for the lesser of two evils. I am asking them to vote on principle for a candidate who stands where they stand, will fight for what they believe in, and will do his best to restore honor and trust to high public office. After all, given the positions taken by Jeffords and Flanagan, whichever one wins this race, most Vermonters will be the losers. Charlie Russell can't boast 31 years occupying a series of public offices. I don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend to help me get elected. But I ask for the votes of concerned, moderate and conservative Vermonters who do not care to endorse with their votes those who have abandoned the people's rights, ignored their constitution, turned their backs on innocent unborn children, taken their earnings to finance an overgrown nanny state, and made the once noble profession of public service into a sordid scramble for power to take our money and run our lives. To those Vermonters I say: on November 7 you can make a statement. I hope you will act on that opportunity by casting your vote for someone who has worked where you work and has experienced the life of an average citizen, Charlie Russell for U.S. Senator. I also hope you will consider joining the Vermont Constitution Party to courageously work to restore limited constitutional government to Vermont in the years ahead.
