Where We Stand :

Constitution Party of Vermont Platform

The Constitution Party of Vermont stands for:
  • Fidelity to the United States and Vermont Constitutions as our basic charters of government
  • Individual liberty and protection of the enumerated rights guaranteed by our constitutions
  • A republican form of government
  • The human right of private property ownership
  • The right to keep and bear arms for self-defense and the defense of society
  • Limited government, and restraint in taxing, spending, and regulating
  • Judicial restraint, and strict construction of the constitution and laws
  • Strong self-governing local communities as a forum for civic life and a counterweight to centralized governmental power
  • Economic growth and opportunity for all in a competitive free enterprise system
  • Equal protection of the laws, without special preferences for favored classes
  • Mutual aid and voluntary service to the community
  • Public support for those unable to live in dignity on their own
  • Traditional marriage between one man and one woman
  • Protection of innocent human life
  • Reverence toward our Creator in all things and the driving principle that all sound governance presumes a God given moral foundation
The Constitution Party endorses candidates who if elected will support the following actions:
  1. Repeal the 2000 civil union act.
  2. Adopt (at the first opportunity) a constitutional amendment overturning the Vermont Supreme Court’s decision in the gay marriage case, and establishing that marriage is the legal union of one man and one woman.
  3. Repeal Act 60, including both its centralization of educational control in the State and its financing system.
  4. Repeal taxpayer financing of political campaigns and increase the contribution limit to $5,000 per individual.
  5. Repeal Act 15 (the heavy cutting law of 1997) and adopt an inverse condemnation law, where a landowner can force the government to take his land and pay just compensation whenever regulations destroy more than half of its value.
  6. Oppose every effort to expand state or local control over firearms possession and carry by law-abiding citizens,
  7. Reverse government intrusion into health care financing and control, and pay medical providers the full costs incurred by Medicaid patients.
  8. Expand parental choice in education to include grades K-12 at public schools and both secular and faith-based independent schools, and adopt a strong charter school act.
  9. Provide a religious exemption for faith based home school families who wish “zero” state intrusion.
  10. Oppose any increase in the state property tax rate, the income tax rate, or the sales tax rate without approval of the people in a referendum vote.
  11. Sharply restrict third trimester abortions, and cease taxpayer funding of Medicaid abortions and constitutionally acknowledge the personhood of the unborn child.
  12. Abolish the Human Rights Commission and the Governors Commission on the Status of Women, and repeal the hate crimes act.
  13. Reform Act 250 and other regulatory statutes to make land use regulation fair, swift, and certain.
  14. Roll back costly government mandates on business.
  15. Protect town and city governments against unfunded state mandates.
  16. End taxpayer financing of pro-homosexual programs in public schools.
  17. Adopt the Citizens Initiative, to allow voters to require a legislative vote on questions favored by the people in a referendum.
